J. R. McNeill teaches environmental and global history at Georgetown University. His books include Something New Under the Sun: An Environmental History of the Twentieth-century World (2000); Mosquito Empires: Ecology and War in the Greater Caribbean, 1620–1914 (2010). He has authored several papers in scientific journals, but, alas, not Geophysical Research Letters.
