Rick Baldoz is an associate professor of sociology at Oberlin College. He is the author of The Third Asiatic Invasion: Empire and Migration in Filipino America, 1898–1946 (NYU Press, 2011). He is writing a book about the shifting contours of US immigration and citizenship policy from 1950 to the present, focusing on how geopolitical considerations have shaped the broader processes of American nation building.
