Julieta Casas is a PhD candidate in political science at Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests include comparative state formation, the development of state capacities, and democratization, with a regional focus in the Americas. She is currently working on her dissertation, “Political Competition and State-Building in the New World: Evidence from the United States, Mexico, and Argentina.”
